Rudbeckia, 'Sahara'

(Rudbeckia hirta) Sahara is a favorite among cut flower growers with velvet brown centers and the muted colors of antique rose and honeyed caramel straight through brilliant pinks, oranges, yellows, and mustards. Most of the flowers are doubled and include a few fluffy scabiosa type puffs with stems reaching 16” in length. Because we grow for seed and do not cut often, we have the unique opportunity to see gradual changes. Like our Apricot Strawflower, Sahara’s colors transform over the season like a sunset. Deadheading is a good idea to keep them vibrant, but if you get busy…they are prolific bloomers with stunning flowers despite your best intentions.
