Rudbeckia, 'Prairie Sun'

(Rudbeckia hirta) Brian has long been an adoring fan of this variety for its joyously sunny disposition. Blooming until frost (which can come so late many years), they are a source of sunshine amidst the grey skies and die-down of the fall fields. Sturdy rosettes of fuzzy grey-green, lanceolate leaves stretch upwards with many branching stems of 4-6” yellow, daisy-like flowers with sage green centers. Most plants feature two-toned petal coloring which yields a concentric patterning to the flowers from green centers to darker and then lighter yellow petals. Easy to grow plants grow to about waist height and require little maintenance. Unabashedly cheerful in bouquets they bring the feeling of sunflowers in a smaller, more manageable package. An AAS and Fleuroselect winner, Prairie Sun has been a specialty cut-flower mainstay for years.
