Uprising Seeds is a signatory of the "Safe Seed Pledge" as put forth by the Council for Responsible Genetics which states:
"Agriculture and seeds provide the basis upon which our lives depend. We must protect this foundation as a safe and genetically stable source for future generations. For the benefit of all farmers, gardeners and consumers who want an alternative, we pledge that we do not knowingly buy or sell genetically engineered seeds or plants. The mechanical transfer of genetic material outside of natural reproductive methods and between genera, families or kingdoms poses great biological risks, as well as economic, political and cultural threats. We feel that genetically engineered varieties have been insufficiently tested prior to public release. More research and testing is necessary to further assess the potential risks of genetically engineered seeds. Further, we wish to support agricultural progress that leads to healthier soils, genetically diverse agricultural ecosystems and ultimately healthy people and communities."
The above pledge only promises to "not knowingly" buy or sell GMO seeds though, and we think it is much more important to "knowingly not" buy or sell them. For this reason we have have begun testing our most at risk crops for GMO contamination. Since 2013, all of our corn as well as selected lots of beets and chard are tested by the accredited Genetic ID lab in Iowa. We maintain a 0% contamination tolerance to 1 in 10,000 seeds. Anything that tests even a small percentage positive is not sold. We will continue to strive to serve you responsibly by doing all we can to insure that you are able to make informed decisions about the seeds you buy.
