Foxglove, 'Café Crème'

(Digitalis lanata) You may have noticed that over the past few years we have really fallen in love with the diversity of the foxglove family. Café Crème is an elegant and alluring beauty. Dense evergreen rosettes of deep green lanceolate leaves give way to spikes of orchid-like blooms with an intricate pattern of burgundy/bronze netting over gold, each with a downward curled, fuzzy, pure white protruding tongue. The strong stem is often darkly tinted red adding to its dramatic appearance. Also known as “Wooly” or “Grecian” foxglove, this species is native primarily to Eastern Europe, though it has naturalized to many areas regions of the world and is even considered invasive in Minnesota.
The hardy but short-lived perennial blooms first year if sown early, and thereafter. UO
