The Safe Seed Pledge
"Agriculture and seeds provide the basis upon which our lives depend. We must protect this foundation as a safe and genetically stable source for future generations. For the benefit of all farmers, gardeners and consumers who want an alternative, we pledge that we do not knowingly buy or sell genetically engineered seeds or plants. The mechanical transfer of genetic material outside of natural reproductive methods and between genera, families or kingdoms poses great biological risks, as well as economic, political and cultural threats. We feel that genetically engineered varieties have been insufficiently tested prior to public release. More research and testing is necessary to further assess the potential risks of genetically engineered seeds. Further, we wish to support agricultural progress that leads to healthier soils, genetically diverse agricultural ecosystems and ultimately healthy people and communities."
Uprising Seeds is taking this a step further and doing all we can, including GMO testing to insure that we "Knowingly" do not buy or sell genetically engineered seed. It is important to recognize that some seed crops are more at risk then others. These are corn, beets, and chard. All our lots of corn are sent to the accredited Genetic ID lab in Iowa. We maintain a 0% contamination tolerance to 1 in 10,000 seeds. Anything that tests even a small percentage positive is not sold. We will continue to strive to serve you responsibly by doing all we can to insure that you have the information you need to make informed decisions.
Seeds are a gift of nature, of past generations and diverse cultures. It is our inherent duty and responsibility to protect them and to pass them on to future generations. They are the first link in the food chain, the embodiment of biological and cultural diversity and the repository of life's future evolution.”
